INCI Name: Matricaria chamomilla (chamomile) oil; Anthemis nobilis flower oil.

Common Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the flowers.

Physical Description: Can range anywhere from a pale clear yellow color to a deep dark blue. The oils consistency also ranges from a thin liquid in the lighter oils to a medium liquid in the darker oils.

Aromatic Description: Fruity apple-like odour, or a warm spicy herbaceous odour.

Properties & Benefits: Has anti-bacterial, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-septic, bactericidal and nerve sedative properties. It’s skin care benefits include helping to relieve acne, allergies, boils, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, inflammation, insect bites and rashes. Its aromatic benefits include its ability to help to relieve headaches, insomnia, migraines, nervous tension, and other stress related complaints.

What is chamomile?
Chamomile comes from the daisy family and has been used for generations for its medicinal and beauty properties. It grows natively across Europe, North America, Asia, South Africa and Australia. Its golden blossoms are seen early in the summer, and it has a slight fruity flavor.
It is usually used in its dried form when it is rich in terpenoids and flavonoids. It contains chamazulene which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Dried chamomile is very popular in tea. Chamomile is psychologically calming and if it is anxiety that is keeping you awake at night a soothing cup of chamomile tea will help you drift off in a peaceful sleep.
And, my personal favorite, chamomile essential oil. Our almond milk soap with chamomile essential oil is not only one of our favorite soaps, but it also contains chamomile essential oil steam distilled in our own studio. How nice is that!
